Our Story
Rooted in the Gospel.
Growing with Thousand Oaks.
For more than 75 years, First Baptist Church of Thousand Oaks has been part of the Conejo Valley—sharing the Gospel, teaching God's Word, serving families, and helping generations of people grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Faithful through generations.
The Conejo Valley has changed dramatically since 1950. Through every season, First Baptist has sought to remain faithful to Jesus Christ and His Word.
A church is planted in Thousand Oaks
In 1950, a group of believers came together with a desire to establish a Baptist church in the Thousand Oaks area. The Conejo Valley was still largely rural, and Thousand Oaks had not yet incorporated as a city.
First Baptist formally incorporates
In 1953, the church formally incorporated as The First Baptist Church of Thousand Oaks. In the years that followed, the congregation established its home at 1250 Erbes Road, where we continue to worship and serve today.
A long chapter of pastoral leadership
Beginning around 1972, Pastor Ron Wilson led First Baptist through one of the longest pastoral chapters in the church's history. His ministry continued for approximately 37 years during a remarkable period of growth and change in the church and surrounding community.
Investing in Christian education
In 1980, First Baptist Accelerated Academy opened on the Erbes Road campus, expanding the church's commitment to Christian education and ministry to children and families.
A new chapter of ministry
Following Pastor Wilson's retirement in 2009, First Baptist entered a new season. In the years that followed, Pastor Jack Clegg began leading the church into its next chapter of ministry in Thousand Oaks.
More than 75 years—and still moving forward
In 2025, First Baptist marked 75 years of ministry in the Conejo Valley. We are grateful for those who came before us while believing some of the most meaningful chapters of our story are still ahead.
Generations gathering, growing, serving, and carrying the hope of Jesus into our community.
A place where generations have grown together.
Across the years, the Erbes Road campus has been more than a place for Sunday worship. It has been a place where children have learned, families have connected, friendships have formed, people have discovered faith, and generations have been encouraged to follow Christ.
Early childhood education also became an important part of the church's ministry. Today, that work continues through Hummingbird Preschool, carrying forward a longstanding commitment to caring for children and supporting families in our community.
Our methods may change. Our foundation does not.
We believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ is as powerful and necessary today as it was when this church began. We remain committed to the authority of Scripture, sharing the Gospel, building meaningful Christian community, strengthening families, serving our neighbors, and helping people become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
